Break Time for Nursing Mothers

Employers must provide nursing mothers reasonable unpaid break time and a private, non-bathroom space to express milk for one year after childbirth.

Conflicts of Interest and Political Activities of State Employees

Massachusetts law prohibits state employees from using public resources or work time for political activity or fundraising, while allowing limited non-fundraising political participation off-duty. Domestic Violence Leave Policy

MassArt provides up to 15 days of job-protected leave for employees or their family members experiencing domestic violence, for related legal, medical, or safety needs, with notice, documentation, and confidentiality requirements.

Earned Sick Time Policy

MassArt employees earn up to 40 hours of paid sick time annually for personal, family, or domestic violence-related health needs, with rules for accrual, notice, documentation, carryover, and misuse.

Federal Immigration Law

MassArt employs only work-authorized individuals, requires I-9 verification, prohibits discrimination, and retains eligibility records per federal law.

Lactation Room

MassArt provides unpaid lactation breaks for employees to express breast milk for her nursing child for up to one year following the child’s birth. A secure Tower Building room, accessed via HR, is provided for this purpose in compliance with federal law.

Mobile Phone Stipend Policy

MassArt provides taxable stipends to eligible employees who use personal mobile phones for work, based on job necessity (mandatory, highly beneficial, or incidental). Employees are responsible for their own devices and plans, while stipends or reimbursements offset business use. Stipend levels, eligibility, and need are reviewed annually, and policies outline responsibilities, usage expectations, and reimbursement rules.
