Canvas : End-of-Term Checklist for Faculty

This checklist will help you wrap-up your Canvas course at the end of term and reduce your set up workload next time you teach the course. This guide pays special attention to the accuracy of student grading information. If you did not use Canvas to collect student work, calculate scores, or share feedback with students, you may find the sections on submitting final grades to self-service, arranging continued course access for Incompletes, and optional data retention and quality of life practices helpful.

As always, if you have any questions or feedback, please don't hesitate to contact the college's Academic Technology team by emailing helpdesk@massart.edu or opening a ticket online.

Step 1: Verify Gradebook Accuracy

If you have been using Canvas to collect student work, calculate scores, or share grades and feedback with your students, it’s a good idea to double check that all of your calculations are up-to-date and accurate.

Step 2: Submit Final Grades to Self-Service

Final grades of record must be entered to the college’s Self-Service platform. Grading deadlines for specific semesters are listed on the Academic Calendar. For more information on grading policies and how to access and use the Self Service system, please visit the Registrar’s Faculty Information page on MassArt Connect.

  • Final grades have been submitted to Self-Service

Step 3: Plan for Students Who Need Incompletes

By default, students can continue to access past Canvas courses to view grades and instructional materials, but they will not be able to submit work. To arrange extended access to a Canvas course, please submit a request to the academic technology team using the form linked below.
