Overview

Upon arrival, all F-1 International Students sign off on a set of responsibilities at the time they complete their Program Registration Form. 

Responsibilities 

  • Full-time Course Load: register for and maintain a full-time course load
  • Never drop below full-time without first receiving authorization from your International Student Advisor
  • Withdrawal or Leave of Absence from MassArt: never withdraw or take a leave of absence without first receiving approval from your International Student Advisor
  • Travel Signature: always make sure you have a valid travel signature on your I-20 when you travel outside the U.S.
  • Address updates within 10 days: make sure your address is updated within 10 calendar days of any changes
  • Passport validity: make sure your passport always has 6 months or more validity
  • Academic struggles: talk to your International Student Advisor immediately if you are struggling with any course work so we can assist with possible options
  • Program registration: complete your Required Program Registration Form upon your initial arrival in the U.S. (form is sent to your MassArt email address)
  • Semester registration: complete your Required Semester Registration Form every semester, following your first semester (form is sent to your MassArt email address
  • Check MassArt Email Daily: make sure you are logging into your email at least once per day and read all communication sent from your International Student Advisor or the International Education Center
  • Taxes: File your taxes (or appropriate paperwork saying your are exempt from filing taxes) every year
  • Employment rules: understanding them is your responsibility
    • Do not work on-campus without first providing your SSN to Human Resources
    • Do not work more than 20 hours per week while courses are in session
    • You automatically hold authorization for "On-Campus Employment" only
    • CPT/Internships & OPT are the only options for off-campus work experience and require pre-authorization from your International Student Advisor
