Graduate Student Aid Eligibility and How To Apply

As a graduate student, you may be eligible for financial aid options including scholarships, assistantships, and federal student loans.

MassArt Graduate Scholarships:

Merit-based and need-based scholarships for graduate students based on academic achievement and financial need. Awarded upon admission by Graduate Admissions.


Graduate Assistantships:

Offers paid opportunities for graduate students to gain experience in teaching, research, studio management and/or curatorial support or administration. Assistanceships are offered by Graduate Programs.


Federal Student Loans:

Awarded based on the information on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Apply for financial aid with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid FAFSA  Graduate students who are enrolled in less than 9 credits (not full time) will have their loans reduced to align with their enrollment load, feel free to contact our office with questions regarding this.


Through the FAFSA, graduate students are eligible only for a Graduate Unsubsidized Federal Student Loan of $20,500 for full academic year. Graduate students who have been enrolled in their program prior to 07/01/2026 and have borrowed a Federal Loan within this program have the option to apply for a Graduate PLUS Loan through legacy provisions (upon separate PLUS Loan application).
