To receive a Parent PLUS Loan, please see FSA Apply for a PLUS Loan for Parents to apply for a Parent PLUS Loan on behalf of an undergraduate student.
To receive an offered Federal Direct Stafford Loan, please see Complete Your Student Loan Entrance Counseling Requirement for guidance on how a student completes Entrance Counseling to receive their offered Federal Direct Stafford Loan(s).
Entrance counseling ensures a student understand the terms and conditions of the loan and their rights and responsibilities. Students will learn what a loan is, how interest works, options for repayment, and how to avoid delinquency and default. Once finished, a record of completion will be sent to the schools you selected. Keep in mind that you cannot save and leave an incomplete session; you must complete entrance counseling in one sitting.
To receive an offered Federal Direct Stafford Loan, please see MPN for Undergraduate Students for guidance on how a student completes their Master Promissory Note to receive their offered Federal Direct Stafford Loan(s).
The Master Promissory Note (MPN) for Direct Subsidized Loans and Direct Unsubsidized Loans is a legal document in which you promise to repay your loan(s) and any accrued interest and fees to the U.S. Department of Education. It also explains the terms and conditions of your loan(s).
Both Entrance Counseling and a signed MPN must be completed for a Federal Direct Stafford Loan to be applied to a student's account as financial aid against the charges.
