Why am I receiving a message that says my Canvas account does not exist?

This article describes what students and instructors can do if they receive an error message that they do not have an account in the MassArt Canvas system.

What is the issue?

You try to log in to the MassArt Canvas system and receive an error message similar to the one illustrated below.

What causes this error?

Students: Your Canvas account has not yet been generated. As of late August 2025, only students who are formally enrolled in fall 2025 courses can access Canvas.

Instructors: You may not be formally assigned to teach a course during the fall 2025 semester.

When will I be able to access my Canvas account?

If you are registered to take or teach a course during spring 2026, your Canvas account will be generated after the fall 2025 semester is underway. We currently expect this to take place no later than early October.

What if I need further assistance?

• Fall 2025 students and instructors: Request assistance through the College's Technology Service Hub.
• Spring 2026 students and instructors: If you cannot access Canvas after October 15, 2025, please request assistance through the the College's Technology Service Hub.
• All others: Submit a support ticket through the College's Technology Service Hub with more information on your situation.
