Fire Safety Tips

Body

Overview

As we continue to ensure the highest levels of safety for our community, I want to share the following tips to keep us safe.

Unauthorized Electrical Appliances: Please refrain from using any electrical appliances that have not been approved by the College, including cooking appliances, electric blankets, and space heaters. Ensure that all electrical devices are in good working condition and do not overload power outlets.

Extension Cords and Power Strips: Please use surge protectors and power strips with built-in surge protection to safeguard against electrical surges.

Flammable Materials: Do not store or use flammable materials such as aerosol sprays, candles, or open flames within college buildings or residence halls.

Heating and Cooling Equipment:  Please do not place or store papers, books, magazines, etc. on, in front of, or around heating or cooling units.  These units must be kept clear to allow for proper operation and to prevent the unit from overheating.

Blocked Exits and Pathways: Ensure that all exits, stairwells, and hallways are kept clear and unobstructed in case of an emergency.

Fire Safety Equipment: Tampering with or obstructing fire safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and fire alarms, is strictly prohibited.

Questions and Concerns:

This spring 2024, the College is also launching a comprehensive review of all campus spaces to address any potential safety hazards. By working together, we will create a safer and more secure campus for everyone.
